Stewards:
At Thielke we value our stewards - volunteers of all ages and backgrounds. No experience is necessary to sign up! An arboretum cannot exist without careful environmental stewardship. We rely on scientific research and proven techniques to protect our cherished plants and restore native habitats, and we teach these methods to volunteers through hands-on experience. Our stewards become community “change-makers” by learning how to apply sustainable techniques to this remarkable park as well as their own properties.

1. Minors that are 15 years old and under, can volunteer with the stewards, only if accompanied by a parent or guardian (over the age of 18), who will also need to sign the waiver and attend the full session with the minor. 

2. Minors that are 16 and 17 years old need parental or guardian permission to volunteer, but can attend without a parent or guardian. 

Meet: Tuesday & Saturday, 9am - 12pm, year-round, weather permitting

  • Learn plant identification techniques

What You Need to Know:
  • We provide tools and gloves, but you may bring your own
  • Please come on time to meet up at garden shed (otherwise it’s hard to find us!)
  • Wear close-toed shoes(waterproof boots- best), long pants, socks, tick/bug repellant
  • Bring water (a refillable water bottle is best, we have potable water on site)
  • Please sign in at the kiosk by the shed each time
  • Restrooms are accessible
  • Park in the pool lot
 
Bad Weather Cancels​ Stewardship Volunteer Hours!
Heavy rain, lightning, 35mph winds or greater, sleet/snow, dangerous driving conditions, temps below 30.
